Mother of Five Now Able to Focus on Work
"I was feeling lost. I wanted to feel a sense of accomplishment and knew I would like to work but thought it was impossible because it was so hard to find child care for my five children. My social worker suggested St. John's Job Center and helped me enroll my children in the After School Program. From the first day in class an interest in my classes gave me hope that things could get better. Having good care for my kids eased my mind and I was motivated to finish the course and go back to work." -Margaret
The Child Determined to Gain His Independence
"Early in the year we observed a two-year old baby boy who could not walk or stand on his own. He was not doing anything a normal child his age should be doing because his limbs were weak. As a department we decided on a course of action that could work, and it did. It included daily massages, therapy with hand and leg movements, helping him to jump and walk with the use of a walker, and playing with a ball. Through strong teamwork, the child began walking and standing on his own. He became a much happier child once he was more independent and was able to explore on his own." -The Staff
"Mommy I Want to Go To School"
"My daughter is doing very well since she's been coming to the Day Care Center. Before, she looked for excuses not to go to child care. Now she looks forward to it. I am the only parent taking care of her and I have to work. I feel good now when I leave for work because I know that the teachers take good care of her. She talks about them all the time and says she likes to play in the housekeeping area and in the sand. She used to be so quiet and shy. Now she talks up a storm. It's all good." -Timitrie
St. John's Residents Thank Case Workers
"My caseworker makes telephone calls and writes letters for me for jobs and she wrote a letter for my daughter to help her get into a journalism program."
"I love learning new recipes for nutritious meals and the discussions we have waiting for meals to cook."
"My caseworker was there during my daughter's illness and comforted me when I lost her to cancer."
I Wasn't Sure I Could Handle It
"I don't have much schooling and didn't think I could handle the Employment Center's Program. I worked hard, and even learned some computer skills, and got into the Maintenance Training Program. My wife is now also a student at The Employment Center. Five months have passed. We have a checking and savings account and our dream of owning our own home is within reach." -Haze
